Pontiac Artists’ Association offers an excellent opportunity

by Marion Jean Hall

Last year, I applied and was accepted to attend a creative and inspiring one-week residency in the Pontiac region of Quebec. It was conceived and arranged with great generosity of spirit by members and supporters of the Pontiac Artists’ Association.

I recommend that Arteast members keep an eye on the PAA website and consider applying for the 2017 residency when details become available in the near future.
http://www.artpontiac.com/residency/index.html

The more I reflect on my experience last summer, the more I appreciate the loving efforts that underpinned it. Recruiting eleven visiting artists, preparing the schedule, keeping everyone up to date on the supplies required and arranging work space for the week for as many as 30 participants--that was a project in itself. To provide accommodation for the visiting artists and meals for such a large group was another major accomplishment. Food constantly appeared as if by magic, but in reality thanks to the efforts and care of the PAA team of hosts and supporters. Showcasing many of the beauty spots in the Pontiac added to our enjoyment throughout the week, and added the extra challenge of transporting numerous participants with all their equipment, supplies and food in a timely fashion without losing anyone along the way. Daring to conceive, and amazing to pull it off! Oh, and have I mentioned the vernissage at the end of the week? Another extra dimension that most people would consider a project in itself. I am still in awe.

I am also very grateful. I have such fond memories of the week: the kindness and creativity of the people I met, the beautiful homes and cottages and favourite locations they shared with us, the art activities I tried, the lush rural landscapes, the cameraderie of the group, all topped off with beautiful weather and a luscious full moon.
