Arteast Juried Award Exhibition; Luna Sole Exhibit; St. Laurent Library Exhibit; AOE News

1. Arteast Juried Award Exhibition

Members and the public are invited to an opening reception for its latest show, the 35th Arteast Juried Award Exhibition. The reception will take place on Thursday, September 22 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the St. Laurent Complex.

Arteast is pleased to present the work of its general membership. These members form the core of Arteast and due to their numbers enable us to present work in our many venues including the St Laurent Complex,.

The works on view encompass many different media and vary, just like the members themselves, from the amateur to the professional. The recipients of the awards in each category have been selected by an independent jury. The show is sponsored by Select Fine Art Materials, 2208 St Joseph Blvd., Orleans.

2. Luna Sole Exhibit

Maryse Hatchard is our current featured artist at Luna Sole, offering a last burst of summer  colour with her larger than life floral watercolours.  Although her education and work history is in the field of Medical Research,  Maryse has always been drawn to the visual arts. She has taken courses in watercolour for many years and is now in a position to pass on some of this wonderful knowledge. She offers classes in her studio space as well as classes during the lunch hour in elementary schools.

In recent years Maryse has been looking into the art health connection, “bringing health and wellness through creative processes”. This she says, “will be a wonderful new chapter” for her. The show will be on at Luna Sole until October 25th.

3. St. Laurent Library Exhibit

St Laurent Library in conjunction with Arteast is proud to present an exhibition of fibre art by Ottawa artist Diane Bertrand. This solo show is titled "Textures-Materials" and runs from September 30, 2016 to January 6, 2017.

Introduced to fibre works by her mother, Diane experimented from an early age with using various techniques and materials to create visual art. The seven artworks in this exhibit have in common the fact that they represent elements of nature and are all made with natural materials.

This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support artists in their local community as well as the St Laurent Library.

Location: St Laurent branch of the Ottawa Public Library, 515 Côté Street, Ottawa K1K 0Z8
Hours: Monday to Thursday: 10:00 - 8:30 Friday: 1:00 - 6:00 Saturday: 10:00 - 5:00 Sunday: closed

Exhibit Blackburn Hamlet Library; Call for North Gloucester Library; Workshop with David Kearns; Community Galleries Selection 2016

1. Exhibit Blackburn Hamlet Library

The Blackburn Library in conjunction with Arteast is proud to present an exhibition of horse paintings by Lore Oser Organ.  This solo show entitled, “Horses” runs from Sept. 24th until Nov. 26th 2016.

Lore has depicted the ‘horse’ in a variety of profiles using different media.  The depiction of these magnificent creatures has always fascinated her and will continue to do so in the future.  Lore is primarily a self -taught artist who has always enjoyed drawing and painting and the comradery of other artists.
This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support local artists in their community as well as engaging with the Blackburn Library.

2. Call for North Gloucester Library

On Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 13, 2016:

Please retrieve the works that have been hanging for the past two months and/or bring in new paintings (or other two dimensional art) for the North Gloucester Library, 2036 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa, K1J 7N8.

The coordinators will be at the Library between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30.a.m.  For those who are dropping off art work, please arrive between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. so that your work can be documented and hung before 11:30 a.m..  For those who are picking up only, please arrive no later than 11:15 a.m.

These new pieces will hang for two months.
The next change-over will be on Tuesday, NOVEMBER 8, 2016

If you are interested in exhibiting, an advance email, on or before Thursday, September 8, 2016, to Christine Gendron, christinegendron@sympatico.ca, indicating the number of works and their sizes, would be helpful. Or, just show up at the date, but risk being turned away

Please be prepared to record your paintings with: Title, Medium, Size, and Price along with your name, phone number and e-mail.  You can bring up to 3 paintings although, depending on the total number received, not all may be accepted.  North Gloucester Library can accommodate 20 paintings. Paintings must be ready for hanging, with appropriate framing and hardware to Arteast standards. Those who are bringing in a painting for the first time this year must sign an Arteast contract form.  Blank contracts will be available at the library.

Fifteen percent (15%) of any sale is payable to Arteast for its operational budget.

When someone shows an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be advised to contact you directly to make the transaction.  We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each exhibition.  If you must remove your work prior to the next change-over, please notify the appropriate coordinator, so the Librarian can be advised and take note of the authorized removal.  Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to ensure their security.  Remember that these are very public areas that put your work and name before the public.  Do your part to encourage people to visit the North Gloucester, Orleans, St. Laurent Complex, and Blackburn Hamlet Libraries, where Arteast members exhibit on a continuing basis.

We look forward to seeing exhibitors on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.

3. David Kearns Workshop
The Fall Break-a-Brush! Workshop Program

This Fall, we're looking forward to hosting another great workshop series: Over 6 workshops, we cover key painting subjects and walk with some incredible master painters.
Autumn's Garland - Saturday 24 September
We respond visually in intuitive ways: to colour, value and texture. Let's create images that have more than form, they have feeling.  Join us on an optional local plein-air sortie for part of the day. Alternatively, choose a recent photo or artwork for a day spent celebrating this exquisite season, as with Tom Thomson's "Autumn's Garland". This workshop will include colour and composition techniques that can be applied using a range of mediums at all skill levels.

Van Gogh, Gauguin and the Post-Impressionists -
Saturday 01 October
They could not have known the impact on expressionism that their art would have. The rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold colour of their paintings had a far-reaching influence in the 20th century and beyond. With this generation of masters as our inspiration, this workshop will focus on the elements that made modernism possible, colour and design having a certain independence from subject matter. Whatever your style and preferred medium, a lot can be learned from the post-impressionists.

From Ingres to Hockney - Line up your Art! - Saturday 15 October
Artists through the ages have used the magic of line as an underpinning for form and expression
- from the 19th century French notable Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres or more recently, the English contemporary David Hockney. This workshop focuses on line along with texture, especially in portraits and figurative paintings. We will review sound drawing and painting techniques, working from both photo references and live model. Participants will be encouraged to pursue their personal style in the medium of their choice. Enlivened your paintings with the crispness of line!

The Painted Voyage - Saturday 22 OctoberEver since painters painted, they captured their experiences in travel: before, during and after. Throughout the stages of man, the travel motif has appeared in art. From cave paintings through the multifarious sketch books, fantastical paintings and works of more recent times, travel has been a constant inspiration. Whether you’re an ardent traveler, are inspired by the romance of far away exotic places or perhaps moved by a particular painting from antiquity, come and join us for a day circumnavigating our world!

An English Landscape Rivalry: Turner and Constable - Saturday 05 NovemberLandscape painters Turner and Constable were influential exponents of romanticism, an artistic movement of the late 1700s to mid-1800s that emphasized an emotional response to nature. Both were masters in landscape oil painting and sketching in watercolour. This workshop will appeal to painters of all levels interested in exploring the landscape with both realist and abstracted styles. Join us for a day of inspiration by these two masters and the bucolic English landscape.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir: portraits and landscapes - Saturday 19 NovemberRenoir holds perhaps a unique place in the annals of art, certainly of impressionism. Equally comfortable with portraits and landscapes, he painted both in pure impressionist style. The warm sensuality of Renoir's style has made his paintings some of the most well-known master works in the history of art.  Whether your interest is in landscapes, figurative work or portraits, join us for a day fused to Renoir's vibrant light and saturated colour.

All Workshops are from 09:30 am to 04:30 pm at Rothwell United Church, 42 Sumac Street, Ottawa, K1J 6P7. $95.00 per session or $75.00 each for bookings of 4 or more sessions. Additional details are found on our website:
http://davidkearn.com/courses_e.htm.

These workshops appeal to a wide range of skill levels: from relative beginners to practiced artists wanting to pursue a new style. Together we will dispel myths and develop sound practices, creativity and expression! France and I would like to invite you to join us for an exciting spring painting program.

Reserve by email to
france@davidkearn.com

or via Paypal: http://davidkearn.com/courses_e_paypal.htm

A memorable season of painting awaits!
