Vernissage
The
public is invited to an opening reception for More Big Ideas
– Voir plus grand! – the latest show to be presented by
Arteast. The reception will take place on Sunday, August 28th
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the ground floor of the Shenkman Arts
Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard, Orleans.
The
11 works of art in this exhibition showcase the varied media that
Arteast members employ and are representative of the high quality of
work produced by its membership. The artists have unleashed
their creativity and imagination on large supports, presenting the
viewer with bold and dynamic perspectives.

plus grand! » présenté par les membres d’Arteast.
La
réception aura lieu le dimanche 28 août 2016, de 13h à 15h au
niveau 1 du Centre des Arts Shenkman, 245 Boulevard Centrum, à
Orléans.
Les
11 œuvres d’art de cette exposition représentent une grande
variété de médium que les membres d’Arteast utilisent. Les
artistes ont exprimés leur créativité et imagination sur des
grands formats libérant ainsi une perspective dynamique.

Orleans
Library Changeover - Reminder
It's
time to change the exhibition at the Orleans Library, 1705 Orleans
Blvd., Orleans, Ontario.
On Tuesday,
September 6, 2016, please retrieve
the works that are currently hanging and/or bring in new paintings
(or other two-dimensional art) to the Orleans Library. These new
pieces will be hung until Tuesday, November 1, 2016 .
The changeover at the Orleans Library is between 10:30
a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Please
be prepared to record the following information on the back of your
paintings : title; medium; size; and, price; along with your name,
phone number and e-mail. You can bring up to five (5) paintings
although, depending on the total received, not all may be accepted.
Paintings must be properly framed and ready for hanging. For those of
you who are bringing in paintings for the first time this year, there
is an Arteast contract you must sign. Blank contracts will be
available at the Library.
When
someone expresses an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be
advised to contact you directly to make the transaction. Fifteen
percent of any sale is payable to Arteast for its operational budget.
We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each
exhibition. Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for
the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to
ensure their security.
Remember
that these are very public areas that put your work and name before
the public. Do your part to encourage people to visit the Orleans,
North Gloucester, Blackburn Hamlet and St. Laurent Library branches
where Arteast members exhibit on a continuing basis.
We
look forward to seeing exhibitors on Tuesday September 6, 2016, at
10:30 a.m.

The 35th
Annual Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition will be held at St
Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street, Ottawa K1K 0Z8 from Sunday
September 18th, 2016, through Thursday, November 24th, 2016.

Arteast Seeks Administrative Assistant - Job Posting
Arteast
is taking steps to hire its first employee—a part-time
Administrative Assistant. In addition to needing volunteers to run
our exhibitions and programs, Arteast needs an employee to help the
Treasurer and some of the Coordinators with certain tasks. Thanks to
an operating grant for 2016 from the City of Ottawa, Arteast is now
in a position to hire someone. I must emphasize, however, that
Arteast will continue to need the help of volunteers in all areas of
activity. So please don't
hesitate to step forward to help.
The
Administrative Assistant position will, of course, be open to all
members of Arteast. However, it will also be open to non-members and
steps are being taken to advertise this opportunity at large. So, if
any of you are interested
in becoming Arteast's

Arteast
is a highly active, not-for-profit ,visual arts organization in
Eastern Ontario. Its aims are to provide an organization through
which members may develop their abilities and interests in the visual
arts, foster the growth of visual arts, and contribute to the
cultural development in Ottawa and surrounding regions.
Arteast
is seeking an Administrative Assistant to:
-assist
the Treasurer by providing:
-
bookkeeping services to input daily expenses and other financial data in Arteast's accounting software and by providing other services related to bookeeping, as required;

processing membership renewals, new memberships, including data entry and financial aspects;

assist the lead coordinators of the annual Mosaic (Trinity Gallery at
the Shenkman Arts Centre) and the Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition
(St. Laurent Recreation Complex) by providing data entry services for
the registration of exhibition applicants;

prepare and dispatch Arteast's weekly Digest of announcements (via
Blogspot) to all members;
-
receive and forward to the Web Administrator and Facebook Coordinator
all Arteast calls for artists, exhibition changeover notices, Grow
With Art meetings and other notices about Arteast activities and
programs;
-
mail out Arteast's hard-copy publications: Communiqué (three times
a year) and the Grow With Art brochure (once a year).
Requirements:

Experience - using Microsoft Office Suite and Excel;

providing administrative services to managers or senior officials.

Knowledge - Arteast mandate;

procedures and established administrative policies and procedures;

bookkeeping practices and principles of budget tracking.

Communiqué
Arteast's
hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our
members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site
at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new
issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest.
Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at
least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is
delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members
have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the
printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué
are:
-
reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes
Arteast more "green";
- no
more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current
and all back issues).
Printed
copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and
the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you
