2. Members Announcements

Jessie Parker announces the launch of her first Paperback Book Money Smarts for Visual Artists: Secrets, Surprises and Essentials, published by Amazon, November, 2015. This book would not have been possible without the input of Arteast members who took her seminars, which she gave on the same topics a few years back. The content arising from their intelligent and pertinent  feedback and questions were critical to the content of this book. The seminars on financial matters evolved into the eBooks, which in turn have lead on to the paperback (with much redesign and updating). Many thanks to Arteast

With the critical info here, visual artists learn art related financial secrets and surprises not generally revealed in art training courses. This book is also useful for self-employed designers, commercial artists and commercial photographers. And Canadian artists living abroad where they are unlikely to be able to get advice on Canadian tax issues.

 In Part I, the practical financial day to day nitty gritty basics are made easy to understand. In Part II, what expenses can and can’t be claimed and how and why are explained. And in Part III, the audit is demystified. What triggers an audit, the artist’s rights, the procedures, and how to win an audit are revealed.

The artist can use this book as a guide for DIY and/or as a basis for fruitful collaboration with accountants. Info is based on Canadian law, but also useful for countries based on British law (UK, USA, AU, NZ ). The book is available at www.amazon.com/author/jessieparker

Kerstin Peters would like to invite you to two of her upcoming events:

On Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 11 am to 3 pm, she holds her third annual Open House at 1270 Kinsella Drive in Cumberland, ON, K4C 1A9. She is looking forward to showing her art in the comfort of her own house.

On December 13, 2015 from 4 to 6 pm, she will be at Tyros Shawarma Lebanese Restaurant at 5929 Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard South, Orléans, ON K1C 6V8, for the Meet the Artist” event. You will also be able to try some of the great food the restaurant has to offer

Kerstin is showing a wonderful mix of her acrylic and oil paintings celebrating the beauty of Canada's winter in this solo exhibition. The exhibition Winter Wonderlandruns until January 8, 2016.

3. Communiqué

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).
Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;
