1. Arteast’s 25th Anniversary Picnic

August 22nd from 10am to 2pm Arteast will hold our very first Family and Friends Picnic at Petrie Island, situated at picnic area 4. Just bring your lunches/snacks, come with your kids, grandchildren, spouse and let’s celebrate our 25th. We will have activities for the kids. Also members can have fun, maybe can do some Plein air painting.

Picnic area: The picnic area is located to the west of the main beach area. It contains a number of mature trees that provide welcome shade. There is also a beach suitable for small children.

Parking: Parking costs $2 for 5 hours.

Petrie Island has some restriction : Users of the picnic area are reminded: 9 pm curfew, no dogs on the island, no alcohol, clean up afterwards, don’t feed those cute looking animals, don’t catch the frogs or turtles, don’t pick the nice flowers. If you want to cook food, bring your own gas barbeque — no charcoal please because there is no place to safely dispose of the coals.

La prochaine activité sera le pique-nique familial qui aura lieu à l'île Petrie, samedi le 22 août de 10h à 14h. Venez partager cette belle journée avec vos collègues, vos enfants, vos petit enfants, votre époux/se. Veuillez bien apporter votre diner.

Nous aurons des activités artistiques pour les petits, et peut-être les plus grands pourront faire de la peinture plein air.

La zone de pique-nique est située à l'ouest de la zone de la plage principale. Elle contient un certain nombre d'arbres matures qui offrent de l’ombre. Il y a aussi une plage pour les petits enfants.

Stationnement : Le coût est de $2.00 pour 5 hrs.

Les restrictions à l’île Pétrie : Les utilisateurs de la zone de pique-nique n'ont pas le droit de faire des feux, d'apporter leurs chiens ou d'apporter de l'alcool. S.V.P. bien ramasser et nettoyer après l'activité, ne nourrissez pas les mignons animaux, n'attrapez pas les grenouilles ou les tortues et ne ramassez pas les belles fleurs. Si vous voulez faire cuire de la nourriture, apportez votre propre barbecue à gaz - pas de charbon s'il vous plaît, car il n'y a aucun endroit où le jeter en sécurité.

2. Communiqué

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).
Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

La copie imprimée du trimestriel d’Arteast – Communiqué – est populaire auprès de ses membres, mais saviez-vous qu’il est aussi disponible sur le site Web http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php ? Lors de sa publication, une notice paraît dans l’hebdomadaire Arteast Digest. Sur le Web il peut être lu et vu en couleurs deux semaines avant la version imprimée ( noir et blanc) postée par Poste Canada. Compte tenu du coût postal croissant plusieurs membres ont enlevé leur nom pour l’envoi postal - vers le Web. Il y a d’ailleurs d’autres avantages du Communiqué en ligne tels que :
- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;
- ne plus être à la recherche du numéro manquant (le Web d’Arteast conserve le numéro courant et les anciens numéros).
Des copies imprimées seront disponibles à la réunion mensuelle L’Art en herbe et à la galerie Promenade Arteast au Centre Shenkman. Si vous préférez lire le Communiqué en ligne, s.v.p. contactez : editor@arteastottawa.com afin d’enlever votre nom de la liste d’envoi postal.

Kerstin Peters has a solo exhibition called "Summer Destinations" at Tyros Shawarma Lebanese Restaurant at 5929 Jeanne d'Arc Boulevard South, Orléans, ON K1C 6V8 until September 5, 2015.

4. Workshops at DeSerres

Drip Splatter Pour: Abstract Level 1

July 25th and 26th, 2015, 10:00-4:00 (Sat), 11:00-4:00 (Sun)
DeSerres Art Supplies, St Laurent Shopping Centre 
This weekend workshop will give you a solid foundation in learning to create strong abstract paintings while you work with different themes, materials, and techniques to create four paintings start to finish.  Learn all about the formal elements of what goes into an abstract work – such as color, line, and composition – while experimenting with different styles and starting points. Get inspired, try some new techniques, and get your abstract on with Golden Artist Colors!
Class Fee: $195.  All Golden paints, pastes, and gels included, as well as all printmaking tools and papers.

Mixed Media 1

August 8th-9th, 2015, 10:00-4:00 (Sat), 11:00-4:00 (Sun)

In this weekend workshop, dive into the fun and fascinating world of mixed media and learn how to turn your photos into paintings using the acrylic transfer technique! Explore some of the endlless possibilities of mixed media, and complete four pieces, start to finish, using different materials and techniques - including collage, monoprinting, faux finishes (mimicking encaustic and resin with acrylic), and acrylic transfers. Learn some new techniques, try some new materials, and rip, layer, stain, pour, paste, print, paint, stamp and stencil your way into some unique mixed media pieces!
Class Fee: $195.  All Golden paints, pastes, and gels included, as well as all printmaking tools and papers.
To bring: four canvases, max 11 x 14 required.
